We were hit with pink eye and an unending cold in March. It felt like Gabby was sick for weeks. She finally kicked it right before Easter (March 23). Mike and I went to the Bal Swan Ball with our friends Patti and Jeff on March 2nd. One of our first real dates since Gabby. We got dress up in costume and everything. It was at Roaring 20s theme. We had a blast but were home and wiped out by 11:30. We had a few warm days so we headed to the park as much as possible and to the zoo as well. Gabby is saying a few words, the most recognizable is DADA of course. She has both of her two bottom front teeth now and I think the top are making their way. Mimi and Papa came back to visit toward the end of the month for 2 weeks.
The biggest news is that I am 40 now and Mike threw me a great surprise party on March 16th, and I really was surprised! He did a good job of making me feel like he really didn't care what we did for my birthday. Nice one! ;)
We took Gabby off her reflux medicine and she is doing great! She starting sleeping through the night, the WHOLE night. We're talking 11-12 hours. It is a huge breakthrough, for me! And did I say I'm 40? I need the beauty sleep.

This month was busy! We decorated the house and bought a tree the first weekend since we were going to have a big MOMS Club Christmas party on Dec 5th. It was a great turn out and the house looked very festive. Charlie enjoyed the tree and only took the ornaments off the first few days. After that, he was on to something else. We celebrated the Kasic Christmas at the Jim Kasic house on Patica Day. Everyone helped (well, I just kept the kids from getting in the way of the adults helping) with rolling the dough and eating it, of course! We had our own little Christmas the following morning since there were a few items too big to take to California for Charlie. Grandma Gail came over also. Charlie got a very fun gift...Shaky Cars and a track! Later that day, we had some neighbors and family over for green chili, Mike's recipe.
The kids and I headed off to California a week before Christmas. Luckily, a friend of mine was also traveling to LA at the same time, so we flew together. It was very helpful to have another adult to hold Gabby when I had to strap Charlie into the seat. The flight went as well as can be expected with a 2 year old and a 5 month old. We had a wonderful two weeks in CA with my family, spending lots of time with Mimi, Papa, David, Marcia, David, Sarah, Peggy and Lala. Our fun outings included Disneyland, the beach, Santa Barbara Zoo, Aunt Nancy's house for a Derus party, Pump It Up, music class with Peggy, a night out to see the Christmas lights in Ventura, and a movie...Mike and I went without kids! For New Year's Eve, Mike, Laura, David, Marcia and I played Wii! I was out of breath playing tennis. Thanks to Little David for sharing his Christmas present. Mike was able to spend about a week with us also, including his 38th birthday! Gabby started sitting up on her own, what a big girl!

Mimi and Papa came out to Colorado for 3 weeks in November. We enjoyed their visit, although it was too quick as usual.
Charlie started preschool at Bal Swan. He goes 3 times a week for 2 hours. His teachers are Ms. K and Ms. Jen and there are 6 other kids in his class. So far, he is doing well. Sharing, caring and communication are the major goals for this age, very important!
For Thanksgiving, Laura, Aunt Nancy, and Trevor came out to visit from California. Mimi and Papa had Turkey Day at their house. It was delicious! Mike was able to stay home for Thanksgiving which was a surprise. We made the apple pie and Charlie helped out peeling the apples and tasting the topping.
We had a nice snow storm at the end of the month. Mike and Charlie made a very cute snowman in the front yard that lasted over a week. Each day it took on a new form, the last one being a bunny.
Gabby rolled over from her back to front on November 29th! Yeah Gabby! She is also eating bananas and sweet potatoes.

We had beautiful weather this month, sunny and warm. Not too hot and not too cold. We had fun going to several pumpkin patches with family and friends. Charlie loved riding a pony and jumping in a few jumpy castles with Lily. He also enjoyed watching the animals at the petting zoo. We carved pumpkins at Uncle Jim and Aunt Kim's house, our annual tradition. On Halloween, we went trick-or-treating with our friends in the neighborhood. Charlie decided he would walk right in to a few houses. Of course, it was one of the coldest nights of the month. He also realized that he likes candy, oh no! Gabby was a pumpkin and didn't last too long trick-or-treating. She was in training for next year. Charlie was a lion. We weren't sure if he would wear his costume because whenever we talked about his costume and got it out for him, he'd tell us to wear it. Somehow, Mike got him to wear it on Halloween night, but not the hood. It was itchy!
Gabby started eating rice cereal, yummy!

Finally, the last month of pregnancy arrived. We spent a lot of time at Mimi and Papa's pool and playing in our kiddie pool in the back yard. Laura was here for a while visiting before and after grading the AP History tests in Fort Collins. Papa came back to Colorado toward the end of the month to be sure to be here for the arrival of Baby Gabby.
My due date was Tuesday, June 26th. Gabby was right on time, entering the world on Wednesday, June 27th at 8:05 am. My contractions started getting stronger and stronger thoughout the day on the 26th. We went into the hospital around 3 AM. I was already dilated to 4.5 cm, so I qualified for an epidural. Yahoo! With Charlie, I was too late to get one. It took a long, long time for Dr. Warm (funny name!) to arrive to administer the epidural. I think it was around 5 am when I started feeling no pain. We decided to wait for our doctor to come in for office hours to deliver. Once he broke my water, Gabby was born within 15-20 minutes. Her full name is Gabrielle Sierra Kasic. She was 21 inches and 9 lbs 3 ounces. The nurses kept saying she was LGA right after she was born and I was concerned until they told me it meant Large for Gestational Age. They had to do a few extra tests since she was "big". Everything was fine. We stayed in the hospital for 2 nights, had lots of visitors and headed home with our little girl on Friday, June 30th. Charlie is a big brother now! We are very blessed to have her as part of our family.Comments:Add a comment:

Mimi came out to rescue me since my back was so sore. She stayed out for a few weeks, left and then came back for the rest of the summer. Thank you Mimi! Dad also came out for a while when Mom had jury duty. Thank you Papa! Charlie and I went to music class with Stacy and Lily every Monday. Sometimes I was too out of breath to do the little dances. By the end of the class, Charlie was really enjoying it. We took a trip to the zoo with Mimi and Charlie went on the train for the first time. He was a little apprehensive, but liked it. We went to a couple of birthday parties (Abbey and Ella, 3 and Luca, 1). Charlie is getting the idea of blowing out candles and eating cake. At the end of the month, we went up to Winterpark with Cari and Bella and stayed at their condo, very nice and very relaxing. I feel very big! I am not sure how much more I can grow!

Mimi and Papa came out for a visit and stayed through the first week of April. Then Laura came out to visit us during her Spring Break. We took a trip to the zoo and played at the park. We had a couple of warm days..Charlie even went outside to play in the water.
We went over to Patti and Megan's house for a very fun Easter egg hunt with the MOMS Club. Charlie didn't really understand the finding part but we had a blast anyway! Megan turned 2 in April so we celebrated at her birthday party.
We went to visit our friends Madeleine, Peter and Will up in Boulder and joined in their neighborhood margarita party..although I had to refrain. I had a taste and they were yummy! The next day I woke up with horrible pain in my back. I could barely get out of bed or off the couch. My doctor was worried about me having back labor so they had me go in for an ultrasound. Everything was fine, and it made me feel like this baby is for real! It brought back good and bad memories of labor and being in the hospital.
Luckily, with some pain medication, I was better in about a week. They told me not to lift anything more than 20 pounds. Well that is Charlie. Only 2 more months to go!

Charlie and I traveled to Seattle at the beginning of the month. There are only a few pictures from our trip since I was hit with a very bad case of the flu for the first few days. We stayed with Karen Crumb and her family for the fist night and then we stayed at Mandi's house. Their family was not feeling well either! Better luck next trip! I did get to see several of my college friends. Mike was out at McChord doing military work, so we spent time with him also.
Charlie still has a love of balls and has also discovered his belly button.
Stacy had a very nice baby shower for me at the end of the month when my parents were here. Lots of pretty pink clothes to add to Gabby's closet.Comments:Add a comment:

This month we watched adn waited for the snow to melt. We were ready to get out of the house whenever possible. The sidewalk started to become visible and we went outside as soon as the temperature was above 50. We enjoyed making Valentine's Day cookies with Charlie's friends (Abby, Ella and Megan)and celebrating Valentine's Day with a party at our house. Charlie went to his first "professional" basketball game at the Broomfield Event Center, but we only made until half time. Charlie was ready to get on the court and ready to climb all over the row in front of us. We had fun celebrating Lily's 3rd birthday with her too!
On Feb 25th, Charlie (and Deanne) had a bad accident. A very heavy blind fell on Charlie, giving him a nice moon shaped scar on his forehead. Deanne was more emotionally wounded than Charlie who forgot about it all after 10 minutes. He didn't need stitches, just purple glue.Comments:Add a comment:

This month we recovered from a busy holiday season. Charlie started a new swimming class at the Broomfield Rec Center. We go twice a week and he loves it. He can go down the little kid slide by himself! He also blows bubbles, kicks and can hold his breath under water (at times). He also went down the big kid (and adult) slide with Daddy! If we're not careful, he'll get in the pool by himself. He's going to be a fish.
We also spent time at play groups and having lunch with Stacy and Lily. Going out in public is getting more fun for Charlie and more tiring for me. He is a runner and likes to leave where we are. Might be time for one of those leashes! :)
We hear new words every day..bee, moon, toast, heat, meat, cheese, home, hammer...and the list goes on!
He has 7 teeth now, but only one on the bottom.
Big News...Charlie will be a big brother at the end of June! We are all very excited about the addition to the family. Also, John (Mike's brother)and Lauren are engaged and will be getting married this September. Congratulations!!
